20 Years Ago In Music...

1991 is not a widely renowned year in terms of music. However if you look at some of the albums released that year, you might take a different stance

Nirvana's classic second album "Nevermind" and Pearl Jam's critically aclaimed album "Ten" were both released that year aswell as Smashing Pumpkins' debut "Gish".  These three albums would send alternate rock into the mainstream.

Red Hot Chili Peppers released their fifth album "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" spawning the hit singles "Give It Away"; "Under The Bridge" and "Suck My Kiss".

In November 1991 U2 released arguably their best album with Achtung Baby.

The legendary Creation Records released 3 of the most out there records of the 20 years.
Primal Scream's "Screamadelica" saw a Stones influenced rock band create a gospel acid house masterpiece.
My Bloody Valentine's second album "Loveless"  defined the shoegazing genre with its soaring guitars and obscure vocals.
Alt-Rock Scottish band Teenage Fanclub released their third album "Bandwagonesque" in 1991.

Metallica released one of the greatest heavy metal records of all time with "Metallica"(The Black Album) in 1991

Massive Attack released on the greatest British dance records of all time with "Blue Lines"

In February, Queen released their final proper studio album "Innuendo" before lead singer Freddie Mercury died later that year.

So 1991 a great year of music or what?

  1. i agree, a great year, but in my opinion '93 was still the best year of the '90s, certainly as far as albums go.

In Utero, Siamese Dream, Vs, Bruce Springsteen's MTV Unplugged...

    Plus, Hopeless Records formed. :)

Still, the '90s generally had some good stuff going on... if you overlook Britpop...
