Its nearly two months now since I last wrote about me becoming a volunteer at Hospital Radio. Every Tuesday since then I have been helping out for 1.5 hours at the local Hospital Radio. Each week I operate the controls (choosing the next song; lining it up to play then pressing the play button mainly). About 3 weeks in I asked whether it would be possible for me to have a slot in the show where I played the music and I talked. So every week now I have my own 30 minute take over where I play about 6 or 7 songs and talk in between them about the song I am about to play. Each week I choose a certain theme and play 30mins worth of songs which fall into my chosen theme of the night.
The first week my theme was "Songs With A Colour In The Title" and I played:
Mr. Blue Sky - ELO
Clear White Light - Lindisfarm
Charlie Brown - Coldplay
Little Green Apples - Frank Sinatra
Fools Gold - The Stone Roses
Yellow Submarine - The Beatles
The second week my theme was "Weather" and I played:
She's Thunderstorms - Arctic Monkeys
Please Don't Stop The Rain - James Morrison
Snow (Hey Oh) - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Sunny Afternoon - The Kinks
Winter Winds - Mumford & Sons
Today The Sun's On Us - Sophie Ellis Bextor
Here Comes The Sun - The Beatles
The third week my theme was "Songs Which Don't Have The Titles In The Lyrics" and I played:
Blue Monday - New Order
Shuffle - Bombay Bicycle Club
Chocolate - Snow Patrol
Iris - The Goo Goo Dolls
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
L.S.F - Mark Ronson feat. Kasabian
A Day In The Life - The Beatles
You'll probably have noticed that I end with a song by The Beatles each week and this week is no exception when my them will be "Songs Which Have Animals In The Title" and I will play:
Black Dog - Led Zeppelin
Superfast Jellyfish - Gorillaz
Elephant Stone - The Stone Roses
Dog Days Are Over - Florence + The Machine
Monkey Wrench - Foo Fighters
She Wolf - Shakira
Albatross - Fleetwood Mac
Octopus's Garden - The Beatles
I will keep you posted on how Hospital Radio is going next month.
Nice ideas to have themes for each week very inventive. Hope it goes well for you and, like you say, keep us posted :) Good Stuff
